Declaration of Interdepedence
The closing ceremony of the international symposium ‘Rediscover and Build Hope for All‘ took place in the Pope’s Gardens. There, the founding partners Archbishop Thabo Makgoba (Anglican Church of Southern Africa), University of the Free State (South Africa) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (the Netherlands) signed the Declaration of Interdependence.
In the grammar of hope, of living together, hope is a commitment, not an emotion. It is a journey, not an event. It is a gift, not a possession, that grows if we share it. In the words of Pope Francis: “Hope is a humble, hidden seed of life that, with time, will develop into a large tree.”
The signed Declaration of Interdependence and the results of the symposium were later shared at the Summit for Future Generations at the Vrije Universiteit.
